WordPress manages website content, while WooCommerce adds online store capabilities. An established ecosystem can simplify a standard project, but every extension adds a dependency. Compare workflows, integrations and ongoing maintenance rather than estimating theme installation alone.

Define editorial and sales workflows

For a corporate site, describe pages, posts, languages and editor roles. For a store, add products, variants, payment, shipping and returns. Assess the whole chain, from an employee updating a record to a customer receiving a confirmed order.

For example, wholesale prices and order approval may be required. Verify the chosen components support them and that data reaches accounting. Having a cart does not establish suitability for that workflow.

Choose extensions for required functions

List core, theme, plugin and custom capabilities. Check support, compatibility, licensing and ownership for every dependency. Several plugins serving the same purpose can complicate behaviour and troubleshooting.

Separate customisations through supported mechanisms from files replaced during updates. Avoid quick core edits without a maintenance plan. Buyers need the component inventory to understand future costs and contractor handover.

Prepare content, indexing and orders

Build page and product structure, headings, language links and URLs. For migration, map old addresses. Metadata and sitemaps should reflect actual available pages rather than duplicate filters or test content.

Test cart, shipping, payment, notifications and returns in an agreed test mode. Check CRM or accounting data if connected. A successful payment screen without the correct order status is not complete acceptance.

Plan security and updates

Provide managed administration, current components and tested file and database backups. Test updates on a copy against core workflows first. Configure automation deliberately around dependencies and recovery capability.

After launch, monitor forms, orders, speed and errors. Remove unnecessary components through an agreed procedure rather than retaining unknown dependencies. WordPress does not eliminate maintenance; it works best when its composition remains understood.

  • Themes and plugins need compatibility, update and backup control.
