Infrastructure as Code (IaC) on Terraform and Ansible: server deployment in minutes

We completely exclude manual server configuration «by hand in the console». We describe the entire cloud and local IT infrastructure of the company as code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible. Quick boot of a production environment copy within 10 minutes, zero differences between servers (Configuration Drift) and full versioning of changes in Git.

✓ Repetition of infrastructure 100%: deployment of a new server or entire cluster within 1 clicks
✓ Complete absence of configuration drift: the state of all servers is strictly synchronized with the code in Git
✓ Disaster Recovery (Disaster Recovery): full restart of the infrastructure in case of DC failure within 15 minutes
✓ Support for any providers: Hetzner Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean or own Bare-Metal servers

[ RELIABILITY AND SPEED OF SCALABILITY ]

Why are companies critically needed to describe servers in code

When configurations are in the head of one system administrator, the business is under constant threat

[ 01 ]

Protection against knowledge loss ("bus factor")

All firewall rules, packets, Nginx configurations and database settings are described in the repository. Any engineer can continue the work without handing over tasks for weeks.

[ 02 ]

Immediate cloning of environments for developers

Do you need to test a complex hypothesis? The team raises an exact copy of the production server (Staging) within 10 minutes and shuts it down after completing the tests.

[ 03 ]

Guaranteed recovery in case of disasters (Disaster Recovery)

If the data center burns down or falls under sanctions, Terraform will lift the entire company infrastructure in another region or with another provider within minutes.

[ 04 ]

Transparent Control of Budget and Resources

You exactly know which servers, disks and IP addresses are rented by the company. No forgotten virtual machines, for which money is charged every month.

[ STAGES OF IAC IMPLEMENTATION ]

What is included in the infrastructure description service through Terraform and Ansible

Full engineering cycle from server audit to automatic stress recovery

[ STEP 01 ] Audit

Inventory and audit of existing IT infrastructure

We are collecting a full map of servers, networks, database configurations, security settings, and identifying undocumented dependencies.

[ STEP 02 ] Terraform

Development of Terraform modules (Provisioning)

We describe the creation of virtual machines, VPC networks, subnets, firewalls, and disks using modular declarative HCL code.

[ STEP 03 ] Ansible

Writing Ansible playbooks (Configuration Management)

We automate the installation of packages, users, SSH keys, Linux kernel optimization, Nginx, PHP, PostgreSQL and Redis tuning.

[ STEP 04 ] Security

Isolation of secrets and configuration of State Backend

We configure secure state storage for Terraform (S3 Bucket + DynamoDB locking) and encryption of sensitive passwords through Ansible Vault.

[ STEP 05 ] DR Testing

Testing Disaster Recovery (Drill)

We are conducting a test deployment of the entire landscape from scratch in a parallel data center, measuring the actual recovery time objective (RTO).

[ STEP 06 ] Handoff

Transfer of Git-repositories and training of engineers

We transfer the repository with modules, record a video instruction on making changes via `terraform plan/apply` and provide 60 days warranty.

[ FREQUENT QUESTIONS ]

Answers to common questions from customers

Key details regarding terms, independent website editing, and rights transfer.

Terraform is responsible for creating the resources («hardware» or cloud): creating virtual machines, configuring networks, disks, subnets, firewalls, and DNS. Ansible is responsible for configuration inside these machines: installing software, configuring users, security, Nginx, PHP, and databases. Together they form an ideal automation tandem.

This phenomenon is called Configuration Drift (Configuration Drift). On the next run of Terraform or Ansible script, it will automatically detect the discrepancy between the server state and the code in Git and safely bring the server to the approved baseline state, protecting the system from unauthorized manual edits.

Yes. Terraform supports the `terraform import` command, which allows to pull already created servers into code without their reloading and downtime. We carefully import your existing servers, describe their configuration and take them under version control.

We use Ansible Vault encryption and integration with cloud KMS or HashiCorp Vault. Sensitive data is never stored in plain text in repositories, and access to decryption is limited to authorized keys.

Thanks to the ready code Terraform and Ansible, deploying a new cluster with 5–15 servers in a new data center takes from 10 to 15 minutes. The rest of the time is only restoring the database from a backup.
