High-load systems: what changes when user numbers grow substantially
Preparing for growth: operation profiles, percentiles, database queries, caching, queues, duplicate prevention and recovery checks.
Installation, offline use, updates and notifications in PWAs: what to agree before development and how to test target devices.
PWAs use web technologies to provide aspects of an installed-app experience. Capabilities depend on browser, operating system and implementation. Specify required actions rather than promise that any website can fully replace a mobile application.
For example, a worker views a previously downloaded catalogue at a poorly connected site. This differs from retrieving current stock or confirming payment. Define what data can be stored locally and how stale it may become.
Show update time and connection state. A queued action must not appear server-confirmed. Agree local-data cleanup on sign-out, especially on shared devices.
Check target browsers, manifest, icons, start URL and secure connection. Installation flows and prompts differ. Instructions should match the platform, while the website remains usable without installation.
Notifications need supported capabilities, permission and a clear purpose. Avoid context-free permission prompts. Refusal should not block the main task unless notifications are an agreed essential requirement.
A service worker can intercept requests and manage caching within the implemented scenario. Agree what comes from the network, what is cached and what must not be cached. Assess risks before storing sensitive responses.
Updates must not silently discard unsaved input. Test older interfaces against newer APIs and recovery after interrupted updates. Offline queues need retry, conflict and duplicate-prevention rules.
Cover first visits without cache, repeat visits, offline use, restored connectivity and expired sessions. Test relevant devices and storage modes. A tooling checkmark does not replace a completed user action.
Shared forms and components help ALL IT Agency web projects maintain consistent behaviour. PWAs add network and update scenarios that need a defined support scope before implementation.
